  • Culture 'El País' fires Fernando Savater, illustrious founder of the newspaper

The board of directors of Prisa has dismissed

Juan Luis Cebrián

as honorary president of 'El País', according to the media itself. According to El País, the decision was made this Wednesday, due to the announcement, that same day, that the journalist will collaborate with another media outlet.

Cebrián's collaboration contract with El País established that the historic journalist from Prisa's header

enjoyed an exclusive contract

, so he should have requested authorization to collaborate with another media. According to El País,

this authorization was not requested at any time,

so Cebrián would have thus breached the terms of his contract.

The journalist and writer,

a member of the Royal Spanish Academy

, was the founding director of the newspaper, which he directed from 1976 to November 1988. In 2018 he was named honorary president.

This Wednesday, the conservative media The Objective announced that "The honorary president of the newspaper El País and

one of the most relevant Spanish journalists

of the last 50 years, joins the list of collaborators."

The Objective belongs to the Spanish-Argentine businesswoman Paula Quinteros. It so happens that in January

El País fired the philosopher Fernando Savater

, also the founder of the newspaper. The philosopher had been writing uninterruptedly on the pages of the newspaper for 47 years, from which he was fired for his continuous

criticism of him at the head of the newspaper. Savater

is also currently among the collaborators of The Objective, a medium directed by Álvaro Nieto.
