A year ago, in 2022, a male student who attended an after-school day service in Osaka that took care of children with disabilities went missing and later died in a river. The representative of the corporation that operates the facility and his older brother, 2, went missing and later died in a river. In the case where a person was arrested, the Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office indicted the older brother on charges of professional negligence resulting in death. The representative was not prosecuted.

The defendant who was indicted was Masami Utsu (65), the older brother of the employee and representative of a corporation that operates Alps no Mori, an after-school day care facility in Suita City, Osaka.

According to the indictment, in December of last year, Yuki Shimizu (13 years old), a first-year junior high school student who was attending the facility, went missing after getting off a shuttle vehicle, and later died in a nearby river. The driver was charged with negligent homicide for failing to exercise his duty of care and not instructing the driver to take measures to prevent the vehicle from flying out.

The defendant was said to have been in charge of creating support plans for children attending the facility.

The prosecutor's office has not announced whether he admitted or denied the charges.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office decided not to indict the 61-year-old representative of the corporation as of the 4th, as a result of the investigation.

The reason for the disciplinary action was ``in light of the evidence.''

Three people, including Utsu and her representative, have been charged with assault and other crimes for hitting another user's child at this facility, and a trial is being held at the Osaka District Court.
