, died at the age of 82, according to his family on Tuesday.

Flaherty, who also appeared in films such as

Terminagolf

(1996) along with Adam Sandler or

Back to the Future 2

(1989), was a companion of some actors from the golden age of Canadian comedy such as the late John Candy, Martin Short, Rick Moranis and Catherine O'Hara, among others.

After learning of his death,

Sandler

expressed his admiration for the comedian on social media. "I adored him when I was little. He always made my brother and me laugh," the actor wrote.

"He couldn't have been funnier when he picked on me on the golf course. The nicest guy ever. A comedic genius. And a truly charitable soul. The perfect combination. My love to his kids and thanks to Joe for everything." the greatness he gave us," Sandler added.

The comedian, born in Pittsburgh (USA), began his career in the city of Chicago in 1970 when he joined Second City, a theater specialized in improvisational comedy.

He later moved to Toronto to establish a branch of Second City. It was his work in the Canadian city with

SCTV

between 1976 and 1984 that catapulted him to fame in North America.

Flaherty also participated in the United States on

the National Lampoon Radio Hour

, a comedy radio show, in which he shared space with John Belushi, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray among others.
