At a Maritime Self-Defense Force base where flying drones without permission is prohibited by law, a video purportedly taken from above of an escort ship using a drone has been posted on SNS, and the Ministry of Defense is investigating the details of what happened.

A 20-second video posted on social media in late March is said to have been taken using a drone from above the destroyer Izumo, which belongs to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Yokosuka Base in Kanagawa Prefecture.

The video is said to have been shot while flying from the back of the deck towards the front, and the video is labeled as a Chinese video sharing site.

It is prohibited by law to fly drones without permission at Self-Defense Force bases, etc., and the Ministry of Defense is investigating the details of how the video was posted, including the possibility that it was manipulated or fabricated.

At a press conference on the 1st, Maritime Self-Defense Force Chief of Staff Ryo Sakai said, ``We are currently in the process of confirming whether the footage was actually taken from a drone or if it was forged. I want to take all possible measures to ensure security."
