The Oscar-nominated film

In 2004, eight million French people were enchanted by these apprentice singers from a strict boarding school and their singing teacher, the touching Gérard Jugnot. With more than a million spectators in the United States, the film was even nominated for the Oscars and its soundtrack, by Bruno Coulais, was covered on this occasion by Beyoncé. A success which owes a lot to his music, recorded by the little singers of St Marc in Lyon and sold nearly a million and a half copies.

Behind the scenes, Christophe Barratier's film was far from a perfect match. Filming in 2003, in the middle of a heatwave, pushing certain actors to play in their underwear and technical problems as well as strikes by intermittent workers. Finally, the film was released in March 2004 and Les Choristes has resonated for 20 years.
