Fishing for white shrimp, also known as the ``jewel of Toyama Bay,'' has begun, and fresh white shrimp are being landed one after another at the fishing port in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture. There were concerns about the impact of the Noto Peninsula earthquake, but there were no problems.

The ban on white shrimp fishing is lifted on April 1st every year, and on the 1st, at Shinminato Fishing Port in Imizu City, fishing boats returned from offshore fishing and landed fresh, clear white shrimp one after another.

The white shrimp were large, about 7 centimeters long, larger than usual for the first day of the event, and were auctioned on the spot.

According to the Fisheries Association, the first catch weighed approximately 270 kg and was sold at a slightly higher price.

There were concerns about the impact of the Noto Peninsula earthquake on white shrimp fishing, as the nets are drawn close to the ocean floor, but there were no problems with fishing gear being damaged due to changes in the topography of the ocean floor.

Takashi Matsumoto, director of the Shinminato Fisheries Cooperative Association, said, ``We were worried about whether we would be able to resume fishing due to the effects of the earthquake, but we are relieved that we managed to make it to the first day of fishing. We hope everyone will enjoy the food.''

White shrimp fishing reaches its peak in the summer and continues until the end of November.
