  • A muted task by Morante in the mixed jaleosa of Valencia

  • Roca Rey is catapulted in Valencia on its breed and the excellence of 'Leguleyo', Jandilla's dream

The bulls are the spectacle of perpetual miracle, although sometimes it degenerates into a mirage or a nuclear winter. At 5:45 p.m. they had already removed the tarpaulin from the Plaza de la Maestranza arena, which takes time, and it was roaring at that precise moment. At 6:12 p.m. the biting lines had been erased. As if the muddy albero had spread over them. People did not enter the lines, and only part of the solanera (sic), always so optimistic, occupied their seats under the umbrellas. At 6:23 p.m. the sky opened its floodgates and emptied the San Juan reservoir. There was not much hope, but at 6:27 p.m. a brilliant sun came out that lit up the rainbow over the Giralda. And minutes later Morante de la Puebla appeared, dressed in bougainvillea and gold, leading the inspection of the softened albero with the crews. There was a conclave and the arrangement of the areas where the weight of the fight is supported was assumed, and they painted only that section with the chopping stripes. A voice as if it were that of God announcing the descent of Moses from Sinai warned over the public address system of the 10-minute delay and then prophesied that the celebration would begin when the arena was arranged. The joy was general. At 7:02 p.m. the traditional lock and pasodoble of "Plaza de la Maestranza" sounded. And we all conclude that the bulls are the spectacle of the perpetual miracle, as I say. Until it degenerates.

The suspension here would have already been the finishing touch to Holy Week. The Spanish anthem made the opening of the Sevillian season official. And Esaborío, a Sardinian bull, the first and fattest (certainly fat) of Matilla's scarce, uneven and empty bullfight (a full-fledged matillazo), debuted it by marking wishes. He always fell asleep in deceptions, without bad humiliation but without zeal or drive to get out of them. Morante outlined two verónicas in an unfinished greeting - it would not be the only time that the bull would cross -, a monumental trench and a signature pass and three beautiful rounds like preaching in the desert. There was no case in a profuse fight of cape -Ferreira got badly stuck and had to solve Curro Javier- and a task that was blurred without cause. Morante was perceived, after this suffering stage, as fine in character but not strong. Before 7:30 p.m. he had skillfully put his arm into the soft ones with the sword.

Sebastián Castella made his debut on this important date of Resurrection, and at 7:58 p.m. he signed his debut with a commendable ear. He stung the bull's temper like a wasp. What it was. He had not fully seen himself in José Chacón's powerful cape, but he had heard himself in the echo of the stirrup on the horse and felt definitively in the disarmament of the beginning of the task. Castella proposed the right with a venomous response and presented a very brave approach to the left, the most graceful, if not good, hand of the bull. That he always whizzed past the edges and edges of him until he surrendered. SC, wedged and below, very focused, tight and seriously, found more vein than expected. And so, when he finished the task with his feet together and with a sword blow from above, the precious trophy fell. Cold with fervor but very fair.

Matilla's bullfight - Cuatreña, so early in the charro countryside, so little done - not only seemed to have brought the Salamanca winter in the climate, but also in its poor finish. The third, dry as a board, was returned by his poor strength. At 8:16 p.m., the hat of the other iron in the house - Olga Jiménez - jumped, the only one from Cinqueño, a noble chestnut with a broad face and greater rennet. Roca Rey was smart with him, allowing him the middle distance and without putting pressure on him. Well, he didn't have anything left over. That strategy supported the first part of the task, on the right hand. That he seems to have rediscovered a certain pulse based on Leguleyo's excellence in Valencia as a turning point. But the second part of the work, on his left, without the distance, decayed like the bull's journey. Only the search for the impact of the surroundings and a strong blow raised that somehow and without indescribable enthusiasm. His ear gave off the same tone of the task.

On his return, Morante found a room that was also called Esaborío, but in the antipodes of the shapes of the first. A shoe, that is. Empty and hopeless of power. The winter of bravery too. Ferreira retaliated with the sticks. At 8:52 p.m., the teacher, who could only give a lesson on how to be positioned in the square with timely interventions, eternalized himself with the steel.

At 9:06 p.m., José Chacón dismounted after two majestic pairs of flags. He brought the bull a crystalline quality in his harmonious head, weighted by his trembling body with trembling supports. Sebastián Castella toasted the audience with enthusiasm that also froze. The bull couldn't, stumbled like his being and his impossible fluidity.

As a strange thing, the second hat, which belonged to Román Sorando, closed the bullfight around 9:20 p.m. No one in the square found out. It seems that Matilla's sixth, the lightest of the six, did not get up in the corrals. Sorando's was a pendant cracked standing. Roca Rey was tenacious and at 9:38 p.m. he put an end to the performance with authority, a sign of the site recovered with the sword.
