• Sydney Sweeney, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron are some of the 'celebrities' who opt for wearing 'no pants' and make a splash

  • Goodbye to "I have a full closet and I don't know what to wear", I am an image expert and I will teach you how to dress in five minutes

When she began her career with the controversial erotic drama 'Nymphomaniac' (Lars von Trier, 2013), Stacy Martin (Paris, 1990) did not have an agent, because she was too scared to recognize herself as an actress. A decade later,

she has 33 roles

and a double career due to her bilingual condition. At this point, this daughter of a British and French mother already defines herself as an interpreter, but she still experiences with amazement the encounters with references of her profession such as Catherine Deneuve and Cate Blanchett

in the front row of the Louis Vuitton shows.

Have you ever rejected a project because you didn't feel strong enough to face it? I've said no to projects because they didn't excite me. The ones I have accepted have always aroused a certain fear in me. When I feel my adrenaline rise it is because my body is excited at the prospect of exploring something different. I never think it's going to be fun, it terrifies me, but it's like jumping into the pool: you dive and before you know it you've already stuck your head out of the water and you're swimming. Was that excitement what led you to debut in a film as controversial as 'Nymphomaniac'? When I filmed it I was only 21 years old and overflowing with rebellious energy. If they offered me that role now, at 34, it would be something totally different, because there was a lot of nudity and a lot of sexual content. At this time my participation would be conditional on not appearing without clothes on screen all the time. So it was a different context and I felt a deep human connection with Lars. My fear then came more from the doubt of whether he would be able to honor such a beautifully written script.

It has been 11 years since the premiere. How do you assess the effect it had with the perspective of the passage of time? Its premiere was very surprising, but behind the controversy about sexuality there is a wonderful story about addiction and artistic creation. Lars von Trier opened a Pandora's box and encouraged a dialogue about what needs to be shown on screen and what not, and why we raise and discuss certain topics. There are many people today who tell me that it is a wonderful film and that they have seen it again. I wouldn't do it, because it seems very intense to me, but it broke certain patterns in the way of narrating. Lars always goes one step further and over time influences subsequent cinema. Your character in your latest film, 'Molière imaginario', affirms that theater is the most sacred thing in this world, do you subscribe to his phrase? I fell in love with interpretation through the works of Chekhov, Ibsen and Sarah Kane. So I agree, theater is a precious and important thing, an incredible shared experience that has existed since the very existence of storytelling. It is a very pure form of expression that allows you to connect to human experiences. It's something that music and cinema also do, but in a different way.

You started as a model and decided to invest the money you earned in theater classes. Did you always know you wanted to be an actress? Yes. The world of fashion is wonderful, because it allowed me to travel, meet many people, enjoy freedom and economic independence that I would not have enjoyed at such a young age, and train in dramatic art. I am curious to know what kind of conversations You meet people like Oprah Winfrey, Emma Stone or Alicia Vikander when you meet them at a Louis Vuitton show. I've been collaborating with Nicolas Ghesquière for a few years and in this time I've met other people who also support him, so there's a lovely family appearance in those meetings. But suddenly you realize that you are sitting near women you have admired since you were a teenager. I like these wonderful surprises that happen to you in this context of fashion. There is something magical in those moments.

How much interpretation does posing on the red carpet involve? Red carpets are a source of maximum happiness and pride, because the project has come to fruition, but they also intimidate me. In movies I hide behind the personality of my characters, but when they come out, I can't do it. It is not a situation to which I feel attracted and in which I move naturally. On the red carpets I have witnessed the traps of ego and arrogance in this profession. How do you manage to distance yourself from these narcissistic dynamics? I know that there are many people who get lost in the madness of this profession, but I have managed to create a calming environment and surround myself with wonderful friends, as well as having great parents who are a great support. I never think that I am the best and it is nice to recognize that, although culture has great social weight, we are not helping to end hunger or tear down walls.

Are you a spontaneous person? Yes, in fact, I'm not very good at planning. When you have to work on a shoot, how do you deal with discipline? The good thing is that I don't usually work where I live. I settle in a hotel or an apartment where only what fits in a suitcase accompanies me. It is very practical and there is something very military: I am there to play a role and I have to be very organized. The work of the actors is very controlled: the days are completely defined, as are the stops to eat or visits to the bathroom, so when I return home I relax.

What do you take to hotels to make them feel like home? I take books and always end up buying more, which is a problem. I also have my AeroPress coffee maker, some coffee, natural wine, oat milk and my camera with me. I am not, at all, a great photographer. I have no idea about lighting, the lens on my camera is fixed, as is the format. But when you take photos with your phone you never look at them again, whereas if you take photos with a camera you start to appreciate things differently. The snapshots I take are casual, of someone eating, laughing or smoking. They are clippings of the moments that I will remember most.
