After months of drought, numerous processions in Spain were canceled on Easter Sunday due to heavy rain. In the Andalusian city of Seville, the Brotherhood of the Resurrection announced via Facebook that it had decided to cancel the large Easter Sunday parade. The city in southwestern Spain hosts some of the country's most famous processions during Holy Week.

The parades were also canceled in Valladolid, Zamora, Murcia and Merida due to the rainy weather. Processions whose origins date back to the Middle Ages take place throughout Spain every year during Semana Santa, Holy Week. The festivities attract thousands of visitors from all over the world every year.

This is the first time since 2011 that the six nightly processions in Seville have been canceled due to bad weather. In 2020 and 2021 they were canceled due to the corona pandemic.
