Nienburg in Lower Saxony: There was a “threat situation”.

A 46-year-old man was fatally injured during a police operation in the city center of Nienburg in Lower Saxony. A policewoman was shot. There was a “threat situation,” said a police spokeswoman. The man is said to have been armed with a knife. A major police operation then began on Saturday morning.

The policewoman who was shot was taken to a clinic in a rescue helicopter. There was initially no information about the severity of their injuries. A police service dog was also injured.

The circumstances of the operation were initially unclear. Eyewitnesses reported several shots to the newspaper “Die Harke”. The “Bild” reported that the man threatened and rioted with a knife in an apartment building.
