Police operation in Ede

Unknown people hold several people hostage in a café in Ede, the Netherlands. This was announced by the police in the province of Gelderland on X. “A hostage-taking involving several people is underway in a building in the center,” it says. Several special police units were dispatched to the crime scene and 150 houses were evacuated. The public was asked to stay away from the area. The police's most recent statement also states: "There is currently no evidence of a terrorist motive."

Images from the crime scene in Ede, a town about 85 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam, show police and firefighters on the streets in a cordoned off area. The city administration announced that all shops in the center of Ede will remain closed until further notice. Train services in the affected area were also suspended.
