The US musician Lizzo has announced her retirement from the music business. She ended a post on her Instagram account posted on Saturday night with the words: "I'm quitting."

The reason given by the 35-year-old rapper, singer and flute player was, among other things, that she was tired of being pushed around in her life and on the Internet. "All I want is to make music, make people happy and help make the world a better place than I found it," she wrote. But she constantly has to defend herself against lies that are told about her. In addition, people make fun of her because of her appearance.

The artist, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, is facing allegations herself. Last summer, three dancers filed a lawsuit against Lizzo in court in Los Angeles. The working environment at Lizzo's concerts was characterized by an "over-sexualized atmosphere" and there were incidents of discrimination and sexual harassment, it says.

"I don't normally respond to inaccurate allegations, but these are just as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous not to respond to," Lizzo wrote on Instagram at the time. "These exaggerated stories come from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told that their behavior was inappropriate and unprofessional." Lizzo wrote that she takes nothing more seriously than respecting women. The allegations hurt her.
