In this year's national book review contest, which receives many entries from elementary school students to high school students, there were at least 10 entries that inappropriately quoted AI-generated sentences, which violated the application guidelines, and resulted in them being excluded from review. I found out that I was excluded.

The organizers of the competition said, ``We believe that only a small portion of the cases are being used inappropriately.'' This does not mean that the use of AI is completely inappropriate, but rather that the use of AI in book reviews written in one's own words is not a complete failure. In the future, we would like to consider how it can be used while preserving its essence."

The ``National Youth Book Review Contest'' has a history of more than half a century, and entries are submitted from elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools across the country.

According to the organizer, the National School Library Association, there were approximately 2.6 million applications this year, but when schools choose works to recommend to district selection committees, they choose works that appear to have been written by someone other than the person himself/herself. More than 10 were found, and out of these, there were more than 10 in which the individuals themselves admitted that they had ``used generation AI.''

Due to concerns about the misuse of AI, the council has set a provision in the competition application guidelines from this year stating that ``if there is plagiarism or inappropriate quotation, the competition may be disqualified.'' These works were not considered for review.

On the other hand, the use of generative AI is also expected to have educational effects, such as proofreading texts and deepening ideas. Although it is not acceptable, I believe that only a small percentage of people actually use it in this way. This does not mean that the use of AI is completely useless, but rather that the essence of book reviews, which are written in one's own words, should be improved. In the future, we would like to consider what kind of use it is possible to make while maintaining the collateral."
