Yue Opera originated in Shengzhou. For more than a hundred years, generations of Yue Opera artists have been determined to reform and carry forward the art of traditional Chinese opera. Among them, Yuan Xuefen, a famous Yue Opera performing artist and one of the "Ten Yue Opera Sisters", has been dedicated to artistic innovation throughout her life and has a profound influence on the development of modern Yue Opera.
According to Wang Xiayan, deputy mayor of Shengzhou City, in order to promote Yue Opera culture and celebrity culture, the local government invested more than 17 million yuan and launched a comprehensive protection and utilization project of Yuan Xuefen's former residence in 2022 (the 100th anniversary of Yuan Xuefen's birth), with a total land area of more than 2,000 square meters. .
Entering Yuan Xuefen's former residence, Yuan Xuefen's precious stills, life photos and important historical materials are displayed in an orderly manner. Precious cultural relics and historical materials related to Yue Opera are also on display. The former residence takes Yuan Xuefen's home letter to her brother-in-law in 1995 as the main line, showing Yuan Xuefen's life of "exploration" in the field of Yue Opera art. In the former residence, visitors can immerse themselves in the Yuan family’s past, people’s lives, folk customs, Yue opera art, etc.
