A man in his 60s who was detained in a prison in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture in 2023 is suspected of freezing to death due to hypothermia, and the prison has been reducing the temperature of inmates' rooms to 21 degrees since March 19th. It was learned through interviews with the Ministry of Justice that a new operation has been started to maintain the security of the government.

At Nagano Prison, it is suspected that the cause of death of a man in his 60s who died in October 2023 in a single-person room was freezing to death due to hypothermia, and police and others are investigating the management system at the time.

Information about the cause of death was provided to the prison two days after the man died.

Regarding this issue, the prefectural bar association has requested a prompt investigation into the cause, but subsequent interviews with the Ministry of Justice and other sources led the prison to review its operations from March 19th until then, and the temperature of inmates' rooms has been changed. It has been learned that a new operation has been started to keep the temperature between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius using heating and other means.

Nagano Prison said, ``We have nothing to answer because it is under investigation,'' while the Ministry of Justice commented, ``We are conducting a trial based on the situation where suspicions of freezing to death have been brought up in the media and in the Diet.'' In addition, prisons across the country are operating to maintain appropriate room temperatures.
