China News Service, Hainan Qionghai, March 27 (Reporter Fu Yuqun) On the 26th, "The World of Baba Nyonya - Baba Nyonya on the Maritime Silk Road" was hosted by the China Cultural Relics Protection Foundation and the China (Hainan) South China Sea Museum. "Baba Nyonya Culture Exhibition" (referred to as "Baba Nyonya Exhibition") was launched at the Nanhai Museum in China (Hainan).

  This exhibition selected 124 pieces (sets) of cultural relics from the Asian Civilizations Museum and the Peranakan Culture Center in Singapore, as well as 13 pieces of Peranakan furniture from the Nanhai Museum in China (Hainan) for display. The content covers Peranakan portraits, clothing, household items, Wedding customs, architectural styles, etc., present the elements of Baba and Nyonya culture from multiple angles.

  In the exhibition, the beautifully designed and brightly colored Nyonya porcelain attracted the audience to stop and watch. The patterns of mythical animals, flowers and birds are lifelike, among which the most classic pattern combination is phoenix and peony, such as pastel phoenix and peony pattern lid jars.

  In addition, exquisite wedding gold silk pearl embroidery and gold ornaments, gorgeous furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl, Chinese sacrificial customs and other exhibits demonstrate the mutual tolerance and innovation of Chinese culture and Southeast Asian culture.

  "From the display of cultural relics, we can imagine the grand scene of maritime trade in those days, look for the inheritance and development of Nyonya culture in the changing times, and feel the beauty of the integration of Chinese culture and the culture of Singapore and Malaysia." China (Hainan) South China Sea Museum Chang Xin Lixue expressed the hope that through this exhibition, cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and New Zealand will be deepened.

  Wen Junyu, deputy director of the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore, said that the Baba Nyonya inherited the Chinese culture of their ancestors and closely interacted with and integrated into the local communities in Southeast Asia where they settled, forming a vibrant mixed culture. It is hoped that through this exhibition, the audience can understand the Baba and Nyonya culture, and at the same time encourage more Chinese audiences to understand the fusion culture of Singapore and other countries and regions in Southeast Asia.
