Resigning cannot solve the problems encountered in the workplace. The most important thing is to adjust yourself.

The subway is a very "classy" means of transportation.

I hope I can keep going and perform the two scripts of going to work and getting off work at the same time.

  ——————————

"Once you go to work, your temperament changes." Some netizens laughed at themselves: No matter how exquisitely you dress up for work, you can't stop the feeling of exhaustion emanating from your body. What kind of "taste" does "Banwei" refer to? How do young people who are new to the workplace adjust themselves to the pace and pressure of work? How can employers improve management and reduce unnecessary occupational burdens for employees? We invited three young people in different career situations to talk about their understanding and feelings about the "class flavor".

  Respondents:

Zhou Daoji (freelancer, 7 years after graduation)

Wang Xiaoan (low-level civil servant, graduated 3 years ago)

Zhang Jiawen (bank account manager, 1 year graduated)

How do you understand "class flavor"? What special meaning does "Banwei" have to you?

Zhou Daoji: It is difficult to give a clear definition of the word "class smell". It can refer to all the discomfort caused by going to work. When I was working in a startup company, I had heavy dark circles under my eyes and my complexion was not very good. After resigning, my former colleagues said "I look really good" when they saw me. In comparison, their complexion was indeed not as good as mine. I feel that going to work makes people feel "alienated". The whole person's state will be relatively tired, and the emotions and psychology are not in a healthy state.

Wang Xiaoan: "Class flavor" expresses a sense of being disciplined. We can only obey and accept the requirements given by our superiors. Even asking questions means offending. Many people say that graduates who have just entered the workplace have clear eyes. This is because the school allows students to develop in a diverse way and tolerates the personalities of young people. In the workplace, what you say and what you wear must follow a set of rules. Isn’t it popular nowadays to dress in a way that is “in line with the situation”? "Being too different from others" may become a target for others.

Zhang Jiawen: "Class flavor" is a temperament that is different from people who don't work. Once, I met an aunt walking her dog in an alley near my work. The alley only allowed one person to pass. I originally wanted her to go first, but she said, "You young people are so nervous at work." . At this time, I realized that I felt "classy" just by looking at it.

Why is the word "Banwei" so popular now? What situation or emotions does it express about young people?

Zhou Daoji: I think my parents' "class spirit" is also very obvious, but people of their generation would think that it is not easy to change jobs anyway, so they would just take it as it comes, not express it, or even think about it. Those born in the 1990s and 2000s have stronger demands for individuality and freedom, and will express their "class flavor", but in fact the situation it points to has always existed.

Wang Xiaoan: I work at the grassroots level, and most of my colleagues live in nearby communities. Some of them only need to walk 5 or 10 minutes to get home. Generally, young colleagues often work overtime, and everyone works overtime voluntarily, because the organization promotes the dedication of serving the people wholeheartedly.

Zhang Jiawen: I used to live in a suburb far away from my workplace. When my tutor at the university found out, he said something that made me silent for a long time: "Never let your boss know that you live far away, otherwise they will be embarrassed to let you go." I’m working overtime.” I think what he said makes sense intellectually, but it’s hard to accept it emotionally. He seems to have spoken out an unspoken rule: the world is centered around work. Our unit has a non-material reward called "Praise Sheet". When I communicated with colleagues who joined the company together, everyone thought that this was the leader's "painting". In addition, I don’t like the idea of “crushing people to death at the official or university level” and look forward to an equal workplace environment.

Are you satisfied with your current working and living situation?

Zhou Daoji: Whether I worked before or don’t work now, it’s all a choice based on my heart. For more than half a year after I quit my job, I would travel during off-peak seasons to places I had never been before. During peak travel seasons, I would stay at home and watch the books, TV series, and movies I wanted to watch before. This kind of life allowed me to The situation has improved, but at the cost of losing stable income and social security. Starting this year, I tried to do some work that allowed me to work flexibly in an effort to earn an income that could support myself.

Wang Xiaoan: I studied in different cities for my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, traveled to many places across the country, and had two overseas study experiences, so going to so-called "distant places" has lost its charm. I pursue stability, pursue the fireworks of the world, and value the happiness of the moment. Of course, I was not very comfortable with the job of a civil servant at the beginning. In fact, I jumped out of my original comfort zone, thought more about my own personality, and looked at problems from a more diverse perspective.

Zhang Jiawen: I am willing to communicate with different people. Working in a bank branch just allows me to come into contact with all kinds of people. I get positive feedback in the process of interacting with people. Because the bank's salary is directly linked to personal performance, this also gives me a sense of fairness in distribution. However, because I communicate too frequently with people during working hours, and even make more than 100 phone calls a day, my desire to socialize during non-working hours is greatly reduced, and I prefer to be alone.

Does the "class flavor" come from the work itself, or from specific aspects of the work?

Zhou Daoji: Doing the prescribed things at the prescribed time and in the prescribed place itself goes against human nature. Whenever you go to work, you are bound to feel some discomfort. From a macro perspective, the strong "class flavor" of a society is also related to its economic development. If the level of social productivity supports high welfare, then it is possible to reduce the "class flavor".

Wang Xiaoan: Wherever there are people, there are rivers and lakes, and there are people and worldly feelings. When working at the grassroots level, if you don't handle interpersonal relationships well, you will hit the rocks wherever you encounter problems. I suggest "let the bullets fly for a while", look inward more, and gradually understand the ways of the workplace.

Zhang Jiawen: There is more or less a "class smell" at work. If "class smell" is used to refer to the sense of restraint at work, then two factors have an important impact, one is whether you work in the office, and the other is whether the leader is around.

How to get rid of the "class smell"? Is there a work-life balance?

Zhou Daoji: The reason why I resigned was not because I hated the content of work, but because I felt that the cost-effectiveness of working was not high enough. I could get a similar income through flexible work and achieve a more free state. But I wouldn’t advise everyone to quit their jobs and not go to work, because leaving jobs cannot solve the problems encountered in the workplace, and may even fall into a vicious cycle in the process of “going to work – quitting – and going to work again”. In my eyes, the most important thing is to adjust yourself, figure out what kind of life you want, and cultivate a healthy mentality.

Wang Xiaoan: We should try our best to distinguish between work and get off work, so as not to let anxiety at work affect our life. I have civil servant friends who go to disco after working overtime in the middle of the night. From personal experience, "finding teammates" is as important as finding a job. Having a life partner who can stay with you for life, or having good friends in life who can share different life experiences between two people, makes it easier to escape from the haze of work. Come out and embrace the wonderful life after get off work, and many problems can be solved easily.

Zhang Jiawen: My undergraduate major was business. At that time, the teacher would introduce some management cases. Among them, some companies allowed employees to adjust their working time and location to achieve flexible work. Office workers in big cities often take the subway to commute. The subway is a very "classy" mode of transportation because, just like going to work, it requires high speed and punctuality. If the subway is delayed for special reasons, everyone will be very anxious because they will be scolded and have their money deducted. Now that I have moved to a place very close to my work, I can walk home after get off work, and I feel partially liberated from the "class smell".

What are your future life plans? What changes do you expect?

Zhou Daoji: In my eyes, the different previous states are important experiences and form part of the life experience. I want to see if I can fully support myself through freelancing first. In the long run, if there is a suitable job, I will always be willing to go back. However, the times are full of changes, so we can only adapt to the situation and constantly adjust ourselves.

Wang Xiaoan: My life progress is going very fast. I got married and had children soon after graduation. It changes every year. I feel like I have grown a lot every year. I hope I can keep going and perform the two scripts of going to work and getting off work at the same time.

Zhang Jiawen: The employee turnover in our unit is very high. New employees have to go to front-line branches. Whether they can return to branch departments in the future depends on the results of subsequent competitions. Many people cannot hold on in the first year. I still hope that I can stick with it, stay at least for the five-year contract period, and get the ideal income level.
