A man apparently drove specifically into a group of three people in Upper Bavaria. According to police, two men were injured in the incident early Saturday morning in Garching an der Alz in the Altötting district.

They were hit head-on by the SUV and injured, one of them seriously, the police said on Monday. Both were taken to a hospital.

Suspicion of attempted murder

A 53-year-old suspect was arrested on site on Saturday. The German from the Altötting district is now in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

The police and public prosecutor's office are currently investigating the suspect's motive and the background to the crime, a police spokesman said on Monday. It is completely unclear why the man acted like that. According to the current state of the investigation, the suspect did not know the two injured people before the crime. So far he has not commented on the incident to the police or the investigating judge.
