The two sides have agreed that Taisei Corporation, a major general contractor, will pay a penalty of approximately 1.6 billion yen to the ward due to delays in rebuilding the aging Setagaya Ward Office in Tokyo.

The rebuilding work for Setagaya Ward Office, which began three years ago, was originally scheduled to be completed in October 2027, but Taisei Corporation, which received the order, made a mistake in the schedule and was delayed, so it is currently scheduled to be completed between April and June 2029. It is expected to be completed.

Setagaya Ward has asked the company to pay a penalty for this, and the ward announced this month that the company has agreed to pay a penalty of approximately 1.6 billion yen to the ward.

The company has also agreed to pay compensation for damages such as the rent for the temporary government building used during construction, and the amount will be determined in the future.

Ward Mayor Nobuto Hosaka said at a press conference, ``At first we had in mind the possibility of seeking a judicial decision, but since we were asking for construction work, the best thing to do was to reach an agreement while maintaining a relationship of trust, so we decided against that. I think it turned out to be a good idea.I hope that the construction work will continue to be safe and of high quality.''
