The tribes fought over the honor of placing the Black Stone in its place, and the competition turned into a sword fight and fighting (Shutterstock)

I wrote in a previous article on Al Jazeera Net, about the comparative biography of the Prophet, and that this type of writing is few, but rather new and has not been written about yet, and that this type of writing serves the biography of the Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - a great service, as most writers’ paths, It took place in certain scientific contexts, either the historical narration from birth to death, or the objective narration of the biography, and the new style in which we are called to write and serve it: to take hold of an event other than the major known events, and search for those who wrote about it, and how each writer dealt with it from an important angle, when... Collecting these angles from different writers, we will obtain a multi-faceted picture with many intellectual and literary colors about the Prophet’s biography.

I mentioned an example called for by Dr. Muhammad Rajab Al-Bayoumi, which was the day of the death of Ibrahim, son of the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - and I alluded to similar views and different quotes from others, and the article resonated well with some specialists and followers, so they asked to write in another example, so that the hadith would be clarified by it. I chose a topic or event that biographers only take a few lines to cover, but the researcher of the writings that have been analyzed and explored between the lines will find great insights into this event, with valuable connotations, and the look at them does not stop at this simple event only.

Abu Umayyah: (angrily) Who is this man? Quraysh: This is a sheikh from Najd. Abu Umayyah: Rather, it is Satan.. Strange, man, you have nothing to do with what we are in. This boy is worthy to gather the opinion of the Arabs one day, and to unite the people..).

Summary of the story of the placement of the Black Stone

The event is the construction of the Holy Kaaba, and the placement of the Black Stone in its place after construction. The summary of the story is that the Quraysh and the Arabs decided to build the Kaaba after much of its structure had been destroyed, and they actually built it, after stipulating that they would not put any illicit money in its construction, and the construction was completed, and it remained for the Black Stone to be placed in its place, and the tribes disputed over obtaining the Kaaba. This honor, and the competition for the honor of placing the stone, turned into a competition with swords and fighting, and in light of the heated debate, they were guided to the idea of arbitration, which is: that the first person to enter them from Bab al-Safa shall judge, and everyone will submit to his ruling, and this is arbitration closer to drawing lots.

The one who entered upon them was Muhammad - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - and they accepted his ruling. He spread out a robe and asked each tribe to hold on to one end of it. He placed the black stone in the robe, then he put it in its place. Everyone agreed with his ruling and accepted it, even if Satan tried. To provoke anger against him, by inciting someone to blame them for ruling over a young man in their affairs.

Writers pause with the story

This is the entirety of the story, but the many pens that have dealt with it, each took a part of it, drawing inspiration from the lesson and the sermon. Indeed, some of them rephrased it in a dazzling literary manner. You feel with each one when you read it, that you are reading another story other than what you know and memorize, and we begin with the writers and thinkers, then With literary scholars from Al-Azhar scholars.

As for Tawfiq Al-Hakim, he is a writer and novelist, and his book was entitled: (Muhammad, the Messenger of Humans). He wrote the biography in a literary conversational language,

preserving as much as he could its events as they were presented, but in the form of a dialogue and a scenario that can be imagined and depicted. He said about his point of view on the event and its significance, but on The tongue of one of those present at the event at that time quoted the phrase “Satan” to incite the Quraysh to envy Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - for his wisdom and judgment. An Arab sheikh (Satan) said: O people of Quraysh, are you satisfied with this pillar, which is your honor, being placed in the place of an orphan boy without your teeth? !

As for Taha Hussein, in his book: (On the Margin of the Biography), who wrote the biography of the Prophet in the style of a storyteller, in a high literary language

, not devoid of philosophical contemplation, he portrayed the situation in a way he believed in, but in the words of the narrator, and he said: (And they were soon entered through the door. A young man who had never seen someone more beautiful in appearance, nor greater in prestige, nor better in conduct among his people. I heard many things from him.

But I became certain that he was a man of great danger, when I saw them looking at his front, rejoicing, and shouting: “This is the trustworthy, we have accepted, this is Muhammad, we have accepted.” Then they presented an argument against him. I did not see dignity like his, nor did I see patience like his, nor did I see calmness like the calm of his soul, and what I saw a man who was kinder to his people, more compassionate to them, and more favoring them with goodness. And look at his decree towards them, you will see, as I see, that it did not result from the thinking of a human being, but rather it was an inspiration from God... Their hearts were reassured by this justice, and they rejoiced in the evil that was restrained from them. And because he protected them from souls and saved them from blood.

Pauses of thinkers and scholars

If we leave the writers, and their giving has not yet ended, but we quote some of their phrases, and there are others who undoubtedly excelled in this context, and if we move to the writers, sheikhs and scholars, in their analysis of the incident, Sheikh Al-Ghazali considered what the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - did as a solution. He was prudent and the people were satisfied with him, because before they saw Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - it was a source of their trust and reassurance, and this indicates the high status he attained among them.

As for Muhammad Rawas Qalaji, in his book: (A Political Reading of the Prophet’s Biography), he looked at the matter from another important angle

, where he says: Attention turned to Muhammad, and people were eager to mention him, and they considered this evidence of the breadth of his perceptions and the speed of his wise action in crises, which is a primary field. Brilliant minds. This was an asset for him that would benefit him in the future when he called people to God and assumed the baton of leadership in the Islamic state.

As for Khaled Muhammad Khaled, the thinker and writer, he looked from afar at the event

, a look that linked the event to the message of this Prophet, and his relationship with those who were different, whether with the followers of the sect or the bees that he would meet in his life, and confronted by his call and message, for the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - He spread out a robe and made each tribe hold one side, so that everyone could participate, which is what Khaled expressed by saying that the meaning here is expressive of his way of thinking, which is to reconcile the different, with what is considered a common denominator between them.

Thus, it will be a moderate approach, staying away from excess or negligence, trying to bring closer to what is excessive or excessive, without compromising on truth and truth. It is an approach of reconciliation, not an approach of justification or expediency. His method in solving this problem was a precursor to the approach that he will follow in solving people’s problems regarding After, and the problems of disagreement between followers of different religions.

His action also indicated the way in which people would be brought out of their confusion and misguidance, to guidance and peace. Whoever brought the Quraysh out of their confusion on the day of arbitration, will be destined tomorrow to bring the entire world out of its confusion and misguidance, sent to him by the Lord of the Worlds.

As for Dr. Muhammad Saeed Ramadan Al-Bouti, he took the incident as evidence of the extent of his wisdom - may God bless him and grant him peace - in managing matters, managing issues, and cutting off disputes, and between whom? Among peoples, there is rarely a dispute between them that then stagnates before blood is shed among them because of it. As you know, their disagreement reached the point where fighting almost broke out among them.

Al-Bouti referred what he did - may God bless him and grant him peace - to what God chose for him to carry out the burden of the message and prophecy, before we referred it to the genius that he was born with, and the intelligence that was born in him. The first basis in his formation - peace and blessings be upon him - is that he is a messenger and a prophet, and then all the other advantages come from genius, cunning, and intelligence, built on this basis and subsequent to it.

We can also add to those who came before that the event may have been viewed by some as saying that this opportunity that came to the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - was sudden, sudden, and without preparation, and this is an angle, but the more important angle is that many people may have the sudden opportunity. To express the talents and talents they have, but the opportunity comes to them as a cold spoil, and it is wasted without much benefit. Had it not been for the preparation, talents and talents that were given to him by Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - related to his humanity and prophecy together, and his preparation for that, this wisdom would not have emerged. A deep person with something to offer is just waiting for the opportunity to show people what he has and to prove his worth and worth in what we seek.

These are some excerpts from the reflections of writers and thinkers on this event, and others have addressed them, whether Orientalists, or writers who started writing biography from the materialist approach, by virtue of the contemporary doctrines they embraced, such as communism, or others. However, their writings came out - even if they were not devoid of observations. - Shedding light on important points, adding glimpses to the fragrant biography of the Prophet, and supporting what we called for to move forward in inviting researchers and writers to delve into this important chapter in the biography of the Chosen One, may God bless him and grant him peace.
