Commissioner Luschke (Gisa Flake) and colleague Rogov (Frank Leo Schröder, M.): Maybe pigs are simply better people

At the end you could hear bloodcurdling pigs screaming that resonated long into the night. A troop of officers marched into the barn in protective suits to kill piglets and sows infected with African swine fever. How does organic farming help if the disease goes away?

In the “police call” on Sunday, German lawyers who were raising hell on a hunting trip met Polish farmers whose existence was threatened by the epidemic. One of the lawyers was found dead on the Oder with a bullet in his body. Inspector Luschke (Gisa Flake) and colleague Rogov (Frank Leo Schröder) were initially looking for the perpetrator among the career snobs in their first own case. In the end, the old farmer's wife from the pig farm turned out to be the perpetrator.

In our criticism we wrote: »Such minimalism has rarely been seen among new commissioners. This is good for the case because you can concentrate on the essentials. And why bother with the habits of the police officers if they will soon be crushed by the nervous public service system? In any case, despite some weaknesses in the plot and characters, this 'police call' develops its own, earthy sound that is free of investigative quirks. Which is also due to quiet passages from the pigsty. You almost grow to love the animals as much as the old farmer's wife does, living in a kind of symbiosis with them. She strokes her bristles again and again, as if she wanted to warm herself on the fattening cattle's fat. The animals seem to enjoy it and look as if they are smiling. Oh, maybe pigs are just better people.”

We gave it 6 out of 10. What is your opinion?

“Pigs” was the first episode of the German-Polish “Polizeiruf” in which Alexandra Gisa Flake and Frank Leo Schröder were primarily responsible for the investigations. Previously they had only been in sidekick roles. In the future, varying combinations of personnel will be responsible for the investigation in the “police call” from the Oder. André Kaczmarczyk, who only joined the Revier two years ago and was already taking a break from “Schweine”, will then be back in the game.
