A new permanent exhibition of space food developed by a company with ties to Shikoku, including dried horse mackerel, which was Japan's first dried fish to be used as space food, opened on the 24th at a museum in Niihama City, Ehime Prefecture.

Starting on the 24th, the Ehime Prefectural Science Museum in Niihama City will be exhibiting space food newly developed by a company with ties to Shikoku.

that it must be able to be stored at room temperature for more than a year and a half, and that

no food particles will be generated so as not to affect various machines. explained.

In the dried horse mackerel section, which was developed by a company in Toon City, Ehime Prefecture and was the first dried fish in Japan to be used as space food, the dried horse mackerel is cut into bite-sized pieces to prevent food particles from scattering, and is sterilized using high temperature and pressure. It is introduced that this method enables long-term storage of 2 and a half years.

Beverages from companies related to Tokushima Prefecture were also introduced, and it was explained that the common method on the International Space Station is to dissolve the powder in water or hot water and drink it through a straw.

Curator Ayano Miki of the Ehime Prefectural Science Museum says, ``We also introduce the products that companies in the prefecture have been involved with and the history behind them. By seeing what astronauts eat, we can get a sense of what life is like in space. I want it to grow," he said.
