As a new attempt to easily perform Japan's traditional performing art, Bunraku, overseas, performances began in Tokyo from the 23rd, using animated images as backgrounds instead of props.

The Bunraku masterpiece ``Sonezaki Shinju'' was performed, and the background art for the animation was created by Kazuo Oga, an animation art director known for films such as ``My Neighbor Totoro'' and ``Princess Mononoke.''

In the famous scene where Tokubei and his lover Ohatsu commit suicide in the Sonezaki forest due to a certain incident, the dark forest at night is mysteriously expressed in the background, highlighting the two men's hidden determination.

According to the National Theater, which planned the show, using animation footage will make it easier to perform overseas as it will save the time and cost of transporting the props.

Tamasuke Yoshida, the puppeteer who plays Tokubei, said, ``I feel that by eliminating the big props that come with Bunraku, it will be easier to travel overseas.Through this experiment, I hope to reach new audiences and grow Bunraku.'' I was there.

The performance will be held at Yurakucho Yomiuri Hall in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo until March 29th.
