On the 22nd, the University of Tokyo's graduation ceremony was held, and approximately 3,000 students, who had spent most of their student lives amid the coronavirus pandemic, took a new step forward.

The University of Tokyo had a total of 2,965 graduates from 10 faculties this year, and many students attended in brightly colored hakamaya and suits.

Graduates have spent most of their student lives under various restrictions, such as entrance ceremonies being canceled and classes being held online due to the effects of the new coronavirus.

At the ceremony, President Teruo Fujii handed over the diplomas to the representative students and said, ``I am truly happy that all of you, who have overcome the difficulties of the coronavirus pandemic together with your friends, have finally reached your graduation day. ``I look forward to the best of you,'' and Yoshi Tokuyama, a representative of the graduating class from the Faculty of Letters, expressed his determination, ``I want to devote myself to the days ahead with new responsibilities and possibilities in mind.''

One graduating student who participated said, ``It was mentally difficult to work on assignments by myself because most of the time was online, but I'm really glad that I was able to attend the graduation ceremony safely.I want to work hard toward my goals even if things are difficult.'' ``Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I didn't have many opportunities to meet people face-to-face, but I was blessed with friends.I want to study African history in graduate school.''
