The American actor
M. Emmet Walsh,
who appeared in more than a hundred films for film and television, died this Tuesday of
a heart attack at the age of 88, his manager,
Sandy Joseph,
told the media today .
Walsh (New York, 1935) had a prolific six-decade career in theater, television and film, and among his best-known titles are blockbusters such as 'Blade Runner' (1982), 'Critters' (1986) and 'My Wedding best friend' (1997).
His first film was 'Alice's Restaurant' (1969), after which he worked with great figures of the big screen, from
Paul Newman to Harrison Ford
, and more recently
Daniel Craig,
whom he accompanied in the recent 'Daggers in the Back' ( 2019).
"Walsh's tremendous work includes 119 films and more than 250 television productions," said his manager in a statement reported by
The New York Post.
Among the series he starred in are 'Frasier', 'The X-Files' and 'The Twilight Zone'.
"I approach each job
thinking that it could be the last,
so it better be the best. I want to be remembered as a hard-working actor. They pay me for what I would do in exchange for nothing," said the interpreter, according to the note.
According to Variety
magazine
, film critic
Roger Ebert
created the "Stanton-Walsh Rule", which stated that
no film that featured Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh as a supporting actor could be bad.
