This standard is the first ISO international standard for traditional Chinese medicine developed under the leadership of Sichuan.
It is understood that this standard is an important breakthrough in the process of international standardization construction in the field of traditional Chinese medicine in Sichuan. It is a vivid practice of Sichuan's initiative to connect with high-standard international economic and trade rules. It fills the gap in the formulation of international standards for traditional Chinese medicine in Sichuan Province and provides a good foundation for the international trade of Chuanxiong medicinal materials. It has gained the initiative in rules and played a positive role in cultivating new advantages in international economic cooperation and competition of traditional Chinese medicine in Sichuan Province.
Ligusticum chuanxiong is a famous authentic medicinal material produced in Sichuan and is widely used. The 2020 edition of the "Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China" (Part I) contains 1,607 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine prescription preparations and single-flavor preparations, including 246 prescriptions of chuanxiong, accounting for 15.3%.
In order to further promote the export of Sichuan traditional Chinese medicine to the sea and high-quality integration into the "One Belt, One Road" construction, in 2019, under the guidance of national and provincial market supervision and traditional Chinese medicine authorities, a technical team was formed to jointly launch the "Traditional Chinese Medicine-Chuanxiong" international standard The proposal was officially approved through voting in July 2021.
This proposal aims at the troubled issues of Ligusticum chuanxiong medicinal materials in international trade, combines the collection of relevant national and regional pharmacopoeias and other standards, and conducts in-depth research and inspection on important indicators including volatile oil, moisture, leachates, pesticide residues, heavy metals, etc., through repeated consultations and thorough discussions to reach consensus with all countries on indicator setting and limit value regulations.
In recent years, the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government have regarded the traditional Chinese medicine industry as an important part of the development of the trillion-dollar medical and health industry.
The Sichuan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine adheres to the guidance of standards and promotes the integration of traditional Chinese medicine into the overall economic and social development.
