In the pitch-black night, the red lines of fire on the distant mountains continued to spread, like lava slowly flowing.

On the National Highway 318 at the foot of the mountain, rescue vehicles rushed past, carrying rescuers to the fire scene.

This is what a China News Agency reporter saw near Yajiang County, Garze Prefecture, Sichuan Province on the evening of the 17th.

At about 17:00 on March 15, a forest fire broke out in Baizi Village, Xiala Town, Yajiang County.

At about 15:00 on the 16th, due to the sudden increase in wind power at the fire scene, the fire spread rapidly, forming three fire scenes from south to north.

At around 19:00 on the 17th, eight hours after setting off from Chengdu, a China News Service reporter drove along National Highway 318 and arrived near Yajiang County.

There are still more than ten kilometers away from the county seat, and thick smoke can already be seen billowing from the mountains in the distance.

Continuing forward to Sandaoqiao Village, Hekou Town, 6 kilometers away from the county seat, the mountain fire has spread to the high mountains next to the national highway, shrouded in thick smoke, bright lines of fire spreading with the wind, and black soot floating in the air from time to time.

"At around 2:30 this afternoon, the line of fire crossed the nearest hilltop and came to us." A young villager in Sandaoqiao Village told reporters that many villagers have been evacuated. "The wind was stronger yesterday afternoon and slightly lighter this afternoon. .”

The sky quickly darkened. As the reporter continued toward the county seat, he saw red fire lines on the mountains beside the road shining in the night, and tall flames rising from time to time.

Next to a gas station at the foot of the mountain, firefighters from the Garze Prefecture Fire Rescue Detachment are washing the mountain with water jets to moisturize the vegetation and prevent the mountain fire from spreading to the gas station.

Han Yiming, the station manager of the gas station, said that at about 4 p.m. that day, as the wind increased, the wildfire spread to the top of the mountain behind. The gas station quickly launched an emergency plan and covered the most dangerous tank area with multiple layers of fire-fighting foam.

"We didn't sleep last night. We mainly refueled the rescue vehicles, evacuated irrelevant personnel this afternoon, and cut off oil and electricity." He said with red eyes.

Some evacuated people in Sila Town and Bajiaolou Township were covered with quilts and resting in the tents.

"Yesterday afternoon, the wildfire was originally opposite our village, across the Yalong River, but the wind suddenly became stronger, and sparks blew into our village. Mixed with thick smoke, it became dark." Bai Bai, Jiaonibao Village, Jiala Town He Jianyong, a villager in Guzhu, told reporters that most of the local houses are made of wood. "After my house caught fire, my family poured water on it together and reluctantly took the house down."
