After a sunny, partly late-winter-cool weekend, the start of the new week is spring-like in many places in Germany.

However, the sun is initially hiding in large parts of the country, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Sunday.

Only from Saxony to the Baltic Sea are there longer sunny phases, while the south gets rain;

Sometimes there can also be lightning and thunder.

The temperature differences on Monday are correspondingly large: a maximum of 4 degrees is likely to be reached on Rügen, and up to 16 degrees are possible in Breisgau.

According to the forecast, there won't be much change in the weather on Tuesday either: the northeast can look forward to a lot of sun with slightly rising temperatures, while in the south and west it will remain unstable with local rain showers.

Up to 20 degrees along the Upper Rhine

At night there will still be widespread frost-free conditions in the south and west, while in the northeast some night frost can be expected with temperatures between zero and minus four degrees.

According to the DWD, much milder spring air will also prevail in the northeast, just in time for the calendar start of spring on Wednesday.

In the north the clouds will be thicker and some rain will fall locally.

In the southern half and especially south of the Main, the spring sun is likely to shine, and up to 20 degrees are possible along the Upper Rhine.

Even in the northeast it will be mild and spring-like with temperatures of up to 18 degrees.
