Horai, a company that manufactures and sells pork buns in Naniwa Ward, Osaka, announced that some of the pork buns it sold on the 16th and 17th were contaminated with plastic pieces.

The company is currently collecting the pork buns it sold and disposing of the bean paste, and so far nine customers have contacted them about contamination, but so far there has been no information on health hazards.

According to Horai, the vinyl pieces were found in some of the "butaman" and "chilled butaman" products manufactured and sold yesterday and today.

According to Horai, around noon on the 16th, an employee at a factory in Naniwa Ward, Osaka, found a piece of plastic inside a pork bun.

The company confirmed that a part of the cover that was placed on the onion cutting machine to prevent water from splashing was missing, and it appears that this water had gotten into the product during the manufacturing process.

In response to this, the company disposed of 1.4 tons of red bean paste and, on the evening of the 16th, stopped selling pork buns at all of its approximately 60 stores in Osaka and other areas.

The company resumed manufacturing pork buns on the 17th after removing the covers and cleaning the machines, but in the afternoon, an employee at a store in Osaka City again found plastic pieces mixed in. That is to say.

For this reason, in addition to the 196,000 pork buns sold on the 16th, the company is collecting and disposing of the bean paste sold on the 17th.

So far, nine customers who have purchased pork buns have reported that they were contaminated with plastic pieces, but there is currently no information regarding health hazards.

Horai commented, ``We apologize for the inconvenience. We will further strengthen our management system to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.''
