Vicky Leandros stumbled and fell off the stage at a concert in Hanover on Friday.

"I was very lucky that I didn't get injured and thank my guardian angel," said the 71-year-old, as the organizer announced.

Towards the end of the show, the pop singer came too close to the edge of the stage while singing the song "I love life", one of her biggest hits, and fell into the audience.

Several people in the sold-out dome hall immediately rushed to her aid.

After a few moments she was back on stage and continued her concert to great applause.

She said to “Bild”: “I stumbled on stage.

I fell off the stage in free fall.

Luckily I fell on my side.” She has no pain or bruises.

“Nightmare” of all artists

»Because I was in shock, I immediately got up again - and continued singing.

Even today, the morning after, I'm still standing a little beside myself." Such a fall is the "nightmare" of every artist, and she will have herself examined.

Her farewell tour is scheduled to continue, on Monday in Berlin.

She is looking forward to it, said Leandros.

The Greek-born singer has been on stage for almost 60 years.

Her first single was released in Germany in 1965, when she was only twelve years old.

She is known, among other things, for songs like “Theo, we're going to Lodz”.

At the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972, Leandros won for Luxembourg with “Après toi”.
