The new, more stringent national standards for drunk driving have been officially implemented on March 1.

If you want to drive for a long time, don't drive drunk.

However, sometimes not drinking can give the illusion of "drunk driving".

Today, the pharmacist will take stock of those drugs that are easy to be "drunk" in a short period of time.

Why is alcohol added to medicine?

The most famous drug for people who are "drunk-driving" is undoubtedly Huoxiang Zhengqi Water.

After reading the drug instructions carefully, it is not difficult to find that "this product contains 40%-50% ethanol (alcohol)" and "you must not engage in driving, working at heights, mechanical operations, or operating precision instruments after taking the drug."

There was a test. Immediately after taking 10 ml of Huoxiang Zhengqi water, the alcohol concentration was tested by blowing with an alcohol detector. The alcohol concentration was 572 mg/100 ml, far exceeding the drunk driving standard. It was tested again 10 minutes later and it was 35 mg/100 ml. 15 minutes Finally, it is 13 mg/100 ml, which is basically normal.

Why do some medicines contain alcohol?

Wine is known as "the best medicine". The alcohol here is a good organic solvent, which can increase the solubility and stability of medicines. The medicine can fully exert its effectiveness by taking advantage of the power of wine and the potential of wine.

Drugs such as Chinese herbal medicines, oral liquids, syrups, tinctures, liquid extracts, aerosols/sprays, liniments and injections all contain alcohol in varying proportions.

Of course, most pharmaceutical solvents contain very little ethanol and will not affect normal driving.

These 12 types of drugs all contain alcohol

The alcohol content in the following medicines varies. Among them, wines and tinctures have the highest content (the ethanol content can be as high as 40%-88%), and their drug instructions indicate that you cannot drive after taking the medicine.

Oral liquids, syrups, injections, sprays, and topical preparations contain relatively low alcohol content and are generally not considered drunk driving if taken according to the prescribed dosage.

Don't worry if you are "drunk". You should tell the traffic police clearly about the drugs you have taken for further confirmation.

Liquor is also known as medicinal wine.

"Huang Di Nei Jing" has a "Treatise on Decoction and Brewing Li". "醆醴" is medicated wine, which is one of the traditional dosage forms of traditional Chinese medicine. Wine can promote qi, dredge collaterals, and dispel cold. Therefore, prescriptions such as dispelling wind, activating blood circulation, relieving pain and dispersing blood stasis are often made. Alcoholic beverage.

Common ones include: Vespa wine, Guogong wine, Shujinhuoluo wine, Parasitic Zhuifeng wine, Sanliang and half medicinal wine, Feng Liangxing rheumatism and bruises medicinal wine, etc.

Commonly used oral liquids include Siwu Mixture, Yupingfeng Oral Liquid, L-carnitine Oral Solution, Digoxin Oral Solution, Ergocriptine Caffeine Oral Solution, Qingnao Fushen Liquid, and Compound Licorice Oral Solution (containing licorice infusion). ointment and compound camphor tincture), etc.

Syrup refers to a concentrated sucrose aqueous solution containing raw materials. Commonly used solvents include water, ethanol, glycerin, etc. It can mask the bitter taste or other bad smells of some drugs and is very popular among children.

Commonly used cold and cough syrups (containing licorice extract and orange peel tincture), Chuanbei loquat syrup, Yangyin Qingfei syrup, Xiaokechuan syrup, dextromethorphan guaifenesin syrup, compound acetaminophen methamphetamine syrup, and ginseng Royal jelly, etc.

Tinctures are clear liquid preparations made by extracting or dissolving raw medicinal materials with ethanol of a specified concentration. They can also be made by diluting liquid extracts.

Common ones include Huoxiang Zhengqi Water, Ten Dishui, Gutong Ling Tincture, Swelling and Pain Relief Tincture, Quinjury and Swelling Tincture, Burn Ling Tincture, Jintong Xiao Tincture, Compound Camphor Tincture, Belladonna Tincture, Ginger Tincture, Polygala Tincture, Iodine tincture, bone-setting water, etc.

Most liquid extracts use ethanol of different concentrations as solvent.

Common ones include belladonna extract, Zhebei extract, ginger extract, Polygala extract, angelica extract, licorice extract, rhubarb extract, motherwort extract, etc.

Common aerosols/sprays include musk pain relief aerosol, chest widening aerosol, isosorbide dinitrate spray, etc.

Liniments are liquid preparations made of ethanol, oil or other suitable solvents for rubbing on undamaged affected areas.

Such as: Curcuma Antiacne liniment, Guyouling liniment, Musk Shuhuo liniment, Musk Qutong liniment, Shuningning liniment, Ketoprofen liniment, bone-setting water, glyceryl alcohol solution, etc.

Injections Some injections also contain alcohol.

For example, hydrocortisone injection and other adrenocortical hormone drugs, nimodipine injection and other cardiovascular drugs, azithromycin injection and other antibacterial drugs, tacrolimus injection and other immunosuppressants, etoposide injection Anti-tumor drugs, bromhexine hydrochloride injection and other drugs for the respiratory system, compound lidocaine hydrochloride injection and other drugs for anesthesia, diazepam injection and other drugs for the central nervous system.

The ethanol content of the coating agent Throtonin coating agent is 42%-52%.

  elixir, digoxin elixir, etc.

Liquors include camphor liquor, ethyl nitrite liquor, etc.

Teach you how to quickly identify “alcohol-related” drugs

How to quickly identify whether a drug contains alcohol?

The easiest way is to read the instructions carefully.

For example: "Ingredient" contains the words "ethanol", "tincture", "liquor extract", "elixir", "liquor" and other words for solution-type drugs containing camphor, borneol, ×× liquid extract, etc., and "alcohol ( "It is forbidden for those allergic to ethanol, use with caution if you have allergies" and other warnings, many of which contain alcohol, so pay attention to them.

If it is difficult to identify, please consult a physician or pharmacist.

To be cautious, do not drive immediately after taking "alcohol-related" drugs. It is best to rest for more than half an hour.

You can drink more water to speed up metabolism, or drink a glass of orange juice. The fructose in orange juice can speed up alcohol metabolism.

People who usually drink alcohol and get drunk easily should be more vigilant about safety!

To prevent problems before they occur, try to choose alcohol-free medicines.

If you are a professional driver, you must inform the doctor when seeking medical treatment and ask the doctor to try to avoid using drugs that affect driving.

Read the drug instructions carefully before taking the medicine. If there are words such as "Drowsiness and drowsiness may be seen in the "Side Effects and Contraindications", you are not allowed to drive machines, cars, boats, engage in high-altitude operations, mechanical operations, or operate precision instruments, then you should not drive while taking the medicine. Follow the principle of "driving without taking medication, taking medication without driving".
