Ahead of the spring national traffic safety campaign, the popular movie character ``Godzilla'' assumed the post of police chief for a day and paraded through Ikebukuro, Tokyo, calling for traffic safety.

This event was held by the Metropolitan Police Department's Ikebukuro Police Station ahead of the spring national traffic safety campaign that begins on April 6th.

After the inauguration ceremony, Godzilla, wearing a sash that read "Chief of Police for a Day," was paraded about 200 meters along the road around the west exit of JR Ikebukuro Station, led by a police car, and accompanied by police officers and traffic. I called for safety.



Many fans and others crowded along the road to get a glimpse of Godzilla, waving and taking pictures with their smartphones as Godzilla passed by.

The spring national traffic safety campaign, which starts on April 6th,

calls for


bicycles and electric scooter users to wear helmets and abide by traffic rules , and to prevent accidents involving children and other pedestrians crossing the street.

Masakazu Ito, Chief of Ikebukuro Police Station, said, ``We hope that through this activity, we will gain momentum towards realizing traffic safety and that the number of accidents will be reduced even by just one.''
