Every year, the digital platform specialized in rural tourism EscapadaRural invites us to travel through our geography in search of towns and places that deserve a getaway.

It is a way to

give visibility to the rural world

so often forgotten.

In this context, the competition to choose the Rural Tourism Capital of the year was born eight years ago.

In this year's candidates there are well-known towns, such as

Peñafiel,

in Valladolid, an essential destination in Ribera del Duero.

Or

Brihuega

, known as the Spanish Provence because every year it attracts thousands of visitors with the flowering of the lava fields.

Others are somewhat more unknown outside their provinces, but they have in common a

calm atmosphere and the richness of the environment

that surrounds them.

    This announcement opens the voting period in which travelers themselves are in charge of voting for their favorite rural destination among the ten finalists.

    Voting will be open on this site until April 15 and the winning municipality of the Rural Tourism Capital 2024 will emerge, which will be announced on April 18.

    According to those responsible for the initiative, the contest is fulfilling its objective of helping many municipalities to increase their visibility and position themselves as a relevant rural destination, thus contributing to local development.

    This has been conveyed by the respective mayors of the 70 municipalities that to date have been winners and finalists of the contest.

    The seven municipalities that hold the title of Capital of Rural Tourism after having received the highest number of votes in each of the previous editions are: Campo Lameiro (Pontevedra, 2023), Cazorla (Jaén, 2022), Olvera (Cádiz, 2021) , Potes (Cantabria, 2020), Santillana del Mar (Cantabria, 2019);

    Aínsa-Sobrarbe (Huesca, 2018) and Sigüenza (Guadalajara, 2017).
