Already in office during 2022, Otto Addo is once again named coach of Ghana.

He will leave Borussia Dortmund where he was training director.

Otto Addo was with the Black Stars during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, eliminated at the end of the first round, last in their group behind Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

The former midfielder signed a 34-month contract with a two-year extension option.

A great privilege

Being able to take on the role of coach of my national team is a great privilege

,” Otto Addo told the official Borussia Dortmund website.

It was not easy for me to make this decision, but I am very grateful and happy that the BVB officials made this step possible for me.

It was not obvious that I could work for the Ghana Football Association alongside my work in Dortmund.

The former international was under contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 2025. “

I know that for Otto, despite his long-standing ties to BVB, the national team has always been something very special.

We have already supported him in the past to work for his country and we certainly do not want to deny him the chance to become a coach

,” said Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Otto Addo will return to the Black Stars quickly for friendly matches against Nigeria (March 22) and Uganda (March 26).

Next June, he will take charge of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Ghana has a victory against Madagascar and a defeat against the Comoros.

Ghana will face Mali and the Central African Republic.
