China News Service, Changtai, Fujian, March 15th (Lin Ziyue, Lin Afen, Lin Xuexin) Spring has returned to the earth, and farming is gradually starting.

Walking into a family farm in Shiheng Village, Lindun Office, Changtai District, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province, new farmer Zhang Jimo is preparing for farming with farmers in the field, loosening soil, covering film, sowing seeds, and waiting for new seedlings to break through the soil. out.

Who would have thought that this "black land" rich in organic matter was still an abandoned land overgrown with weeds more than a year ago.

“Sometimes when we are cultivating in the fields, we can still pick up some scattered stones.” Walking on the new fields, you can occasionally catch a glimpse of the mottled traces left by the slate industry on the land, which are buried under the fertile soil. What you see are the sites of abandoned stone processing factories.

In August last year, Zhang Jimo contracted this 36-acre abandoned land for reclamation and used it to cultivate crops such as barbecue eggplant, corn, and green beans.

"I heard before that the winter in the north is not suitable for farming, but northerners have a high demand for fruits and vegetables, so I thought about growing some off-season fruits and vegetables and transporting them to the north for sale. I didn't expect that they would also produce good benefits." Zhang Jimo said, these After the government's improvement and conditioning, the fields are no different from ordinary farmland. This is because the ecological environment of Lindun has improved day by day in recent years, and the quality of the fruits and vegetables grown has also become higher and higher.

In fact, Zhang Jimo also ran a stone slab business here for decades before becoming a new farmer.

He is also one of the witnesses to Lin Dun’s green transformation over the years.

"The 'first pot of gold' I made here was from the stone business." He smiled and recalled that when he first came to Shiheng Village more than 20 years ago, the land in the mountain village at that time was "filled" with large fields. There are thousands of stone slab processing factories, large and small.

"The uncontrolled expansion of stone factories continues to crowd out the space used by villagers for farming and living, causing serious damage to the environment." Zhang Jimo recalled the various scenes at that time and said that from early morning to late at night, various cutting stones, The roaring noise of trucks was constant, the sky was filled with white dust, and the waste and gravel dumped randomly made the originally clear stream become as turbid as milk.

This "extensive" development path that is highly dependent on resources will eventually be unsustainable. A ban in 2019 caused all 1,098 stone slab factories in Lindun to be shut down for renovation.

"I thought about what I would do after the stone factory closed down for a long time, and finally decided to pick up and 'review' the experience I accumulated in agriculture in the early years." Zhang Jimo said.

In Lindun, there are many examples of "abandoned land" turning into "rich land".

Since the stone remediation and industrial transformation, the Lindun Office has guided villages to transfer land intensively, carry out reclamation and cultivation according to local conditions, introduce high-quality and new varieties, and awaken "sleeping" land resources.

Since 2022, through village-enterprise cooperation and other models, the villages of the Lindun Office have promoted the remediation of nearly 300 acres of abandoned land, and have successively introduced 14 excellent new varieties such as Golden Guanyin, Sweet Charlie Strawberry, and Seedless Wogan, and have developed and expanded the area of 1,000 acres. Demonstration projects such as Mandarin Orange Garden and Agarwood Garden have a planting area of more than 1,400 acres.

Zheng Zhaoqi, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Lindun Office, said that after the transformation, Lindun has a strong advantage as a latecomer in agricultural development. At the same time, industrial transformation has also significantly improved the employment situation of rural surplus labor.

Lindun, this "stone village" that once relied on the mountains, has vigorously promoted the high-quality development of characteristic and efficient agriculture by constantly seeking the greatest common denominator with the ecological environment, and continues to depict the "feng" of rural revitalization on the fields of hope. scene.
