  In 1924, Dr. Sun Yat-sen established the Whampoa Military Academy with the help of the Communist Party of China and the Soviet Union.

The teachers and students of Huangpu made great achievements in the struggle against imperialism and feudalism, and in the struggle for national unity and independence, and made significant contributions to the Chinese revolution.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Whampoa Military Academy, China News Service launched the 100-person oral history series "The Wind Rises in Whampoa" to search for 100 representative Whampoa alumni and descendants around the world, listen to the stories of the martyrs, and pursue the spirit of the ancestors, so as to better to unite the Chinese people at home and abroad to jointly contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the complete reunification of the motherland.

  Xia Shiduo, whose ancestral home is Chaohu, Anhui, was born in Beijing in 1920. He participated in the "December 9th" student movement in middle school.

While studying at the Law Department of Southwest Associated University in 1939, he was affected by the situation of the entire nation's resistance to war and decided to join the army. He graduated from the 17th artillery section of Huangpu Military Academy and the staff class of the Kuomintang Army University.

On the eve of liberation in 1949, he studied in the English Department of North China People's Revolutionary University and Beijing Foreign Languages ​​School in Beijing.

Later in Shanghai, he worked in the Democratic Progressive Municipal Committee for a long time and joined the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy.

After the reform and opening up, the Huangpu Military Academy Alumni Association was reestablished. He has served as deputy secretary-general, executive director, and is currently the vice president of the Shanghai Huangpu Military Academy Alumni Association.

Mr. Xia is still concerned about national affairs every day. He is in good spirits and has a loud voice. He encourages the second generation of Huangpu to be united with the Communist Party of China, walk with the great new era, devote themselves to the great cause of rejuvenation of a strong country, and follow the path of Chinese-style modernization.
