News presenter Peter Kloeppel will host his last show in the summer.

He told “stern” that.

“My last broadcast will be at the end of August,” said Kloeppel in a farewell interview with the magazine

.

The 65-year-old is leaving the television station's daily news business.

Every now and then he still wants to be in front of the camera.

“I'm turning 66 this year. That's a good thing,” Kloeppel continued.

The reason for saying goodbye to the television world is also his family.

He wants to spend more time with her.

Kloeppel would like to move his life to the USA, where his wife and daughter also live.

“They only know me there as Peter from Germany – not as a TV person,” said Kloeppel.

Kloeppel came to television because he liked the job.

Kloeppel told “stern” that he became a presenter as a result.

He didn't always feel comfortable in his role as a factual messenger of news.

“I admit openly: I would sometimes like to be as anarchist as Jan Böhmermann,” says Kloeppel.

Working satirically on political issues that concern everyone – that impresses him.

The Frankfurt native has been the chief presenter of “RTL aktuell” since March 30, 1992.

From 2004 to 2014 he was also editor-in-chief of the Cologne private broadcaster.

He has received numerous honors in his career, such as the Grimme Special Prize, the German Television Prize, the Bavarian Television Prize and the Audience Bambi.

Many viewers particularly remember his moderation during the attacks of September 11, 2001.

This seven and a half hour live segment is considered the finest hour of television journalism.

Kloeppel also founded the RTL journalism school.
