But this year, the surge in prices, against a backdrop of recession and rising unemployment, is seriously affecting their purchasing power.

Long cited as an example in the sub-region, Senegalese democracy has been undermined in recent years by political decisions.

On February 3, Macky Sall announced a postponement of the presidential election which was to be held on February 25.

What followed was a legal standoff with the Constitutional Council which resulted in a new date for the election on March 24.
