Film celebrities prefer to dress conservatively for the Oscars.

Every year they bring old Hollywood to life in the Dolby Theater.

Evening gowns and tuxedos are almost mandatory.

Experimentation takes place elsewhere.

For many people, a colorful cummerbund, a little rhinestone on the lapel or a “crazy” accessory is already the ultimate.

Sounds simple, but it doesn't make it any easier for the stylists.

Your clients want to be noticed, but not in an unpleasant way.

With a lot of black on the red carpet this year, sometimes a canary yellow empire dress like Brittany Snow's is enough.

Wearing a tuxedo as a woman still works.

Director Celine Song ("Past Lives") wore hers with a double-layered skirt, which gave her outfit a special touch.

Sandra Hülser's dress was also special: simple black and with a sculptural décolletage.

But the German Oscar candidate stood out in another way when she chose her Schiaparelli dress: She doesn't have a contract with the fashion brand, but rather wanted to have fun above all and otherwise trusted her stylist Jordan Johnson Chung.

A good choice, as it turned out.

Because it's often the case that the stars wear what brings them the most money.

Of course they want to look good.

But why not make good money at the same time?

By choosing a particular designer, a contract is often fulfilled first and a personal wish comes second at the earliest.

Some of the stars deal with it very openly, like Eva Longoria, who said on the red carpet: “I don't choose anything.

I'm a Barbie doll, they dress me." When, fortunately (from a PR perspective), a reporter asks about the brands worn, the assistant team sometimes has to be asked whose design is being displayed.

Few people put as much effort into it as Donata Wenders, who had a dress made for the evening out of old VHS tapes of her husband Wim Wenders' films.

The design by Berlin designer Mira van der Osten is intended to be a homage to the film world and an example of sustainability.

So much fashionable intellect is rare on this red carpet.

It's a shame actually.

What do you mean?

Who deserves the fashion Oscar this year?
