The “best actress

award went to Emma Stone.

Nevertheless, Sandra Hülser may have received more international attention through the ceremony than ever before.

Lars-Olav Beier, DER SPIEGEL: »I think Sandra Hülser is one of the winners of the evening, even if she didn't get the Oscar.

For one thing, I believe that the real award is to be nominated.

Hollywood rarely gets this wrong.

Occasionally yes, but there are always some of the strongest performances of the year.

And secondly, Sandra Hülser had an enormous and very strong and also very pleasant presence on the show that evening.

The camera is often focused on her.

And there were also a lot of excerpts from her films to be seen.

Because she starred in two films that were nominated.

And as a result, the audience, the world audience, also got a certain impression of the range of her acting abilities.

Sandra Hülser, actress: »It's a unique moment.

I think this will probably never happen again.

That’s why I enjoy everything about it.”

This is what Hülser said on the red carpet the evening before the award ceremony.

In the past she had reacted differently to the increasing hype surrounding her.

Lars-Olav Beier, DER SPIEGEL: »Sandra Hülser actually had the feeling for months that she didn't really feel comfortable in this role: now becoming so well known and going to the Oscars, giving interviews, to be in the spotlight.

She also reacted a bit harshly in some interviews.

And I thought yesterday it was just different because she seemed so relaxed.

I was very emotional when other people also won prizes.

And even seeing tears was probably a sign of happiness and joy.”

Movie scene 1:

“Stop, I didn’t kill him.”

Both films in which Hülser appears win awards: “Anatomy of a Case” for best screenplay, “The Zone of Interest” as best international film.

Movie scene 2:

“Do you want to smell the rose?”

Why did her colleague Emma Stone still win with “Poor Things”?

Lars-Olav Beier, DER SPIEGEL: “Sandra Hülser plays characters in both “Anatomy of a Case” and even more so in “The Zone of Interest” with whom one cannot identify at all or only to a very limited extent.

And of course that leads to a certain distance being built up from the actress.

I think in the perception of the Academy members there is a bit of a blur between character and actress.

And with Emma Stone, you hug her right from the start and go through this life with her, which she then completely rediscovers for herself and also defines where she lives out her desires.

And I think that's one of the reasons why she might have won in the end.

Because the audience felt more strongly about her character and identified more strongly with her.”
