  • Controversy: Fatphobia and lack of diversity in 'Dance as you can'?

Norma Duval causes a very uncomfortable moment in the new RTVE program

  • TV The premiere of 'Dance as you can' will affect the broadcast of 'Bake Off'

RTVE

claims to finally have the formula for success.

The network understood that, after the extinction of programs like

¡Mira qué baila!

and

More than dancing!

, the only way to sell a talent is to renew itself... And they have achieved it.

Or, at least, that's what they say about

Dance As You Can

.

A new dance competition, which will premiere this Monday, at 10:50 p.m., on

La 1

.

According to the public entity,

Dance as You Can

will "revolutionize" television for two main reasons.

Its program includes a

docureality

-based on extreme sincerity-, which exhibits the participants as beings who cry, get frustrated, sink;

and a curious difficulty that will make the contestants reach the limit of sanity and question even their vocation.

And in

Dance as You Can

the protagonists are not the eight celebrities who appear in the promos,

they are 16 professional dancers

, who - to stay in competition and win 50 thousand euros - must get

Lydia Lozano

,

Sabrina Salerno

, Maestro Joao, Álvaro Muñoz Escassi,

Ana Guerra , Fabiola Martínez, Jaime Astrain and Colate Vallejo-Nágera learn

hip-hop

,

house

and jazz choreography

.

And that, for some, seems impossible.

"We have created a format that

highlights the work of the dancers

, because they are the ones who compete. They are the central figures and are accompanied by a cast of stars who provide the emotion. In addition, there are spectacular choreographies and great staging "It is not the typical ballroom dance program," comments Ana María Bordas, director of originals at RTVE.

On the other hand, Zeppelin - the production company in charge - also believes that

Baila como puede

is a " unique

show

", due to the high quality of its two types of tests: those carried out at galas and those recorded outside of dish.

"

We do tests outdoors, every day in a different place

, and we pay tribute to great musicals. Then, there are the choreographies by couple and each of them is evaluated by four juries," says Miguel Martín.

"

Norma Duval

,

Beatriz Luengo

,

Rafa Méndez

and

Yolanda Ramos

are in charge of scoring the couples and, unfortunately, in each program a dancer is eliminated. So imagine how the focus changes for the famous people, who do not compete for them. That's why , in this program, we have the opportunity to see celebrities

as

they have never been seen before," explains the director of the production company.

Likewise, the production ensures that the audience will be able to get to know

Anne Igartiburu

in a very different facet.

According to what they say, the presenter cries, gets emotional and empathizes like no one else with the contestants.

"We are going to entertain the viewer in a brilliant way, with feeling, and we will be able to highlight the work of the dancers like never before. They are always in the shadows and now they have the spotlight," she says.

The jury's assessment of the couple's performance will determine whether the professional dancer continues in the program or if he must leave it, changing the

celebrity

to the teacher to, this time, be able to give his best.

Duval, Luengo and Méndez agree with Igartiburu.

They predict that

Dance as You Can

will be

a trending topic

and they even dare to talk about a "historical change."

"With this program there will be a before and after on television

," says the former

star

.

"We are talking about a transgressive format, which includes the social codes that are used in 2024," says Luengo.

"It's something surprising. You're going to see the famous shits and the dancers, who are always the most whorish, will shine," says the former

Fama

choreographer .

And what do the stars think?

The same as every team, although with an anguish that arouses curiosity.

"What I spent a month here I have not experienced in 10 years. He had never cried so much and you are going to see it, because what is shown here is transparent," declares Sabrina Salerno.

"

I don't know whether to say that I'm happy, because I feel cheated

. Things happen here that are different from what we thought were going to happen. It's crazy," Guerra reveals.

"When they called me, I said yes without asking anything... And I should have done it, because this is crying and crying. This is not a television show, it's something else. In fact, I ask people to put have your best dinner and dress well to see this

show

, because this is a show that people could even pay for... And it's free!" says Lydia Lozano, with a euphoria that infects Fabiola Martínez.

"Everything is so incredible that I could say that this program has helped me be reborn. I am rediscovering myself every day. I am meeting a Fabiola that I didn't even know was there," reveals Bertín's ex.

"Me too. The truth is that I only learn 80% of it through dancing. I don't understand the instructions, it's hard for me and, like the others, I also feel cheated. But I also feel very grateful," says Muñoz Escassi.

"I just want to thank you for remembering me, I'm delighted. I feel like family, we all get along great and we're all working to bring out the best we have inside," says Colate, who feels as satisfied as Jaime Astrain.

"I feel privileged, because I am learning great life lessons. We are living through a tough time, which puts you on the limit, but I can only define this program as one of the best opportunities that have been presented to me," he confesses.

"To finish, I just want to say that I am very happy. The program is hard, it's true... But it makes me feel happy that no one questioned me when I arrived. No one looked at me in any way and today I want to thank RTVE for also betting on age diversity.

I am 60 years old and I believe that with this program I can become a reference

and show people that it is possible," concludes Maestro Joao.
