Cameroon: 62 players from the championship, including Nathan Douala, excluded for “double identity”

The Cameroon Football Federation has announced that 62 players from the national championship, Elite One, will not play in the play-offs due to age fraud.

Among them, Nathan Douala, who had been retained with the Indomitable Lions during CAN 2024 and who was already talking about his “17 years”.

He was a bit like the mascot of the Indomitable Lions during the last

African Cup of Nations

.

Nathan Douala, declared the youngest player in the CAN, at the age of 17, acted as facilitator of the group selected by the now ex-Cameroon coach, Rigobert Song.

Today, the Victoria United player has become the symbol of the new age fraud scandal which is currently shaking Cameroonian football.

The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has just released

the list of players authorized

to take part in the play-offs of the MTN Elite One championship without 62 players, including Wilfried Nathan Douala, excluded due to “

double identity

” and for lying on “

their age

 ”.

Green carpet...

Fifteen clubs are concerned and the Yong Sport academy (Yosa) team has in its ranks 13 players identified for dual identity.

Victoria United, Nathan Douala's club, has seven. Ironically, the president of Victoria United, Valentine Nkwain, had filed a reservation against the Yosa club for players having altered their age after the Victoria-Yosa meeting , 1-1, of the 17th day of the championship.

The Federation agreed with him and suspended six players from the Bamenda team and gave Victoria United victory on the green carpet.

It is therefore a new crisis for Cameroonian football, already mired in poor results and the search for a coach to replace Rigobert Song.

The issue of age fraud is especially recurrent in Cameroon.

In January 2023, the Cameroonian Federation suspended 21 of its 30 U17 internationals selected for a CAN qualifying tournament in the same category.
