Bielefeld city center: The victim died of his injuries at the scene

A 38-year-old man was shot dead on the street in downtown Bielefeld on Saturday evening.

The victim is said to be the former professional boxer Besar Nimani, as the "Bild" newspaper and the "Neue Westfälische" unanimously report.

There was initially no official confirmation of the identity of the deceased.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the police said when asked.

It was initially unclear whether the shots were fired by one or more perpetrators.

The perpetrator or perpetrators were on the run, according to a joint statement from the public prosecutor's office and the police late in the evening.

According to eyewitnesses, the perpetrators were a group of men, according to “Radio Bielefeld”.

The suspects were therefore in a café on Obernstrasse before the crime.

Her victim is said to have left a hair salon, whereupon shots were fired.

According to witnesses, a total of five to six shots were fired.

According to “NW,” an older BMW was said to have been waiting for the fugitives with the engine running.

According to the current state of knowledge, there is no danger to bystanders, the police said.

A major police operation took place in the Bielefeld city area on Sunday night.

A homicide squad has taken over the investigation.

The police initially did not provide any further details or background information, particularly regarding a possible motive.

The search for the perpetrators continued.
