A car crashed into a gate at Buckingham Palace in London on Sunday night.

This was announced by the Metropolitan Police.

A man was arrested on suspicion of property damage and taken to a hospital, it said.

There were no reports of injuries.

The newspaper "Mirror" showed a shaky video on its website, which appears to show the moment of the man's arrest: a person surrounded by others kneels with his hands behind his neck in front of the official residence of the British monarch;

A small car with its hazard lights on stands between the posts of one of the gates to the palace.

The brief report on the Mirror website also states that an eyewitness became aware of what was happening because of a loud noise.

Nothing was initially known about the background to the incident, which is said to have occurred around 2:30 a.m. local time.

According to the police, this is now the subject of the investigation.

Security at Buckingham Palace is tight.

The palace in the heart of the British capital is monitored around the clock by armed officers.

There had been several break-in attempts in the past.

In September 2023, a 25-year-old was arrested after trying to get into the palace stables.

After the coronation of King Charles III.

in May, a man threw shotgun shells onto the palace grounds and was arrested.

Also in May, a 43-year-old drove his car into the gates of Downing Street, where British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak resides.
