At this year's Japan Academy Awards, chosen by film industry professionals, director Takashi Yamazaki's ``Godzilla-1.0'' won the Best Picture Award.

At the 47th Japan Academy Awards, the top awards in each category were announced in Tokyo on the 8th, with director Takashi Yamazaki's ``Godzilla-1.0'' selected as the Best Picture.

"Godzilla-1.0" is a powerful movie that uses "visual effects" (VFX) to depict the giant monster Godzilla that suddenly appears in post-war Japan and ruthlessly destroys a city that is in the process of being rebuilt, as well as the people who stand up to Godzilla. This is a work drawn on video.

"Godzilla-1.0" is also the first Japanese film to be nominated for Best Visual Effects at the American Academy Awards, which will be announced on the 11th Japan time.

Director Yamazaki said, ``I think this is an award that Godzilla won with everyone. I'm very happy because I get to celebrate the Best Picture award with all the staff and cast.''

Meanwhile, German director Wim Wenders, who directed ``PERFECT DAYS,'' became the first foreigner to win the Best Director award.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

This time, Koji Yakusho, who played the lead role, was selected for the Best Actor Award.

Mr. Yakusho accepted the award on behalf of Director Wenders and said, ``I think Director Wenders, who loves Japan and the Japanese people, would be really happy if he was here. I would like to hand over this wonderful award to the director.''

In addition, Sakura Ando won

the Best Actress Award for ``Kaibutsu''

and the Best Supporting Actress Award for ``Godzilla-1.0'', achieving two individual awards.
