A Lufthansa plane had to make an unscheduled stopover on its way from Frankfurt to Gothenburg because of a smoking coffee machine.

As a Lufthansa spokesman announced, flight LH818 landed in Hamburg on Saturday evening as a precautionary measure due to brief local smoke development in the front galley.

The cause is now being investigated

The cockpit crew declared an air emergency in order to get a priority landing in Hamburg, said the spokesman.

The Airbus A319 landed normally and taxied to the gate independently, and the passengers left the plane normally, Lufthansa said.

The cause of the smoke is now being checked by technicians.

According to initial findings, a coffee machine was defective.

There was no danger for guests and crew.

The passengers would fly on to Gothenburg on a replacement plane that evening.
