Three adults and a teenager are said to have brutally beaten and kicked a 14-year-old youth footballer in Witten near Bochum.
The crime is said to have occurred after a soccer game between two youth teams.
The teenager suffered abrasions and bruises on his face, said a spokesman for the Bochum police.
The three men who fled and a 15-year-old are being investigated for grievous bodily harm.
The police have a video in which the attack can be seen.
"Very confident"
The incident occurred last Saturday.
Several media outlets such as the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” and the “Westfälische Anzeiger” reported on the case.
According to a police spokesman, the 14-year-old player from the Bochum visiting team was substituted and is said to have slapped the 15-year-old spectator from Witten.
After the game, the 15-year-old took him out of the cabin with his three adult companions.
The four are said to have beaten the young man from Bochum and then fled.
The police spokesman said they were "very confident that we will soon identify all four people."
