Prime Minister Kishida exchanged opinions with top leaders of the construction industry, and in response to the issue of labor shortages and wage increases, the industry will move forward with a wage increase of more than 5%, based on the fact that the "labor unit price" for public works has been raised. I asked for your cooperation.

Prime Minister Kishida, relevant ministers, and heads of industry organizations attended a meeting to exchange opinions regarding wage increases in the construction industry held at the Prime Minister's Office on the 8th.

As labor shortages and wage increases become issues in the construction industry, the government is aiming to enact legislation and formulate policy packages to encourage work style reform, as well as to improve the "labor unit price," which is the standard for public construction wages. It was explained that the national average price increase was 5.9%.

Prime Minister Kishida then stated, ``I would like each company to strongly push forward with wage increases that are well above 5%,'' and asked for the cooperation of the industry as a whole to promote wage increases.

Participants from the construction industry called on member companies to raise wages and requested guidance to ensure appropriate labor costs not only for the government but also for construction ordered by the private sector.

After the meeting, Yoichi Miyamoto, chairman of the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors, which is made up of general contractors, said, ``Since we received an increase in the labor unit price for public construction, we would like to respond positively to the request for a wage increase.''
