Last year, customs authorities across the country stopped imports of products as counterfeit branded products, exceeding 30,000 items, the second highest number on record.

Immediately after Major League Baseball player Shohei Otani's transfer destination was decided to be the Dodgers last December, the fake uniforms were seized.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the number of cases in which customs authorities across the country suspended imports of counterfeit branded goods last year was 31,666, an increase of 17.5% from the previous year.



This is the first time in three years that the number has exceeded 30,000, making it the second highest number since statistics began being kept in 1987.



By country, China accounts for 79% of the total.



By type, clothing was the most common item at 10,401, accounting for 28% of the total, followed by bags such as wallets and handbags, and shoes.



In addition, there are many goods from Japanese anime such as Studio Ghibli and Pokemon, and


the counterfeit uniforms were reportedly stopped immediately after Major League Baseball player Otani's transfer destination was decided to be the Dodgers in December of last year.



The Ministry of Finance states that there are cases where fake branded products are distributed through online shopping, etc., and urges people to be careful if they are extremely cheap compared to official websites.
