A good two weeks after the disappearance of two US citizens in the Caribbean and the discovery of their yacht, three men have been charged with double murder.

The three suspects were remanded in custody in a court in Grenada on Thursday, the island state's police announced.

They are accused of stealing the Americans' catamaran and throwing them overboard.

According to police, the three men, aged 23, 25 and 30, escaped from a station south of Grenada's capital St. George's on February 18th.

They were in custody on suspicion of robbery, and one of the men was also accused of rape.

Three days later they were caught again in the neighboring island nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

They are said to have gone there in the stolen boat.

The victims have not yet been found.

According to a fundraiser website for their sons, the couple were experienced sailors who spent their retirement on their boat.
